Shepard Attacked by a panther, protected by his dog

This zinc statue, “Shepard Attacked by a panther, protected by his dog,” was commissioned by Friedrich Wilhelm IV in 1850. Julius Jules Franz, the artist, cast the original in bronze. This zinc copy was brought to Newport by the artist Achille Duchene for the gardens at Chetwode Mansion. Zinc Statue expert Carol Grissom recently evaluated the statue and determined it was of superior quality and crafted in Europe. It is one of the few in existence. The base measures: 28.25” L x 57” W x 3” H
